Waste and environmental services businesses are valued and run differently from other industrial companies. Route density, disposal and transfer economics, contract quality, permits, and fleet and capital intensity all shape what a business is worth and how it integrates. Advisors who have not worked inside these companies often miss it.
Dan Goldstein has spent his career inside them: medical waste and shredding at Stericycle, solid waste at WCA Waste, biosolids at Synagro, and a $600M multi-site waste services organization at LRS. He also serves as an independent board member of Sharps Medical Waste Services, a portfolio company of Aurora Capital Partners. Based in the Chicago area, Dan works with waste and environmental services companies across the United States.
Relevant experience
Stericycle (2005–2018). Owned the acquisition process from prospecting to close in approximately 100 acquisitions with a combined market value above $3B, spanning medical waste, shredding, and hazardous waste.

Synagro (2021–2022). Scaled M&A for a $400M PE-backed biosolids company and closed three acquisitions that increased EBITDA by 6%.
LRS (2023–2026). As CFO, completed 3 acquisitions and 4 divestitures generating $170M+ in liquidity at an 11× multiple and reduced leverage by two turns.
