A fractional CFO gives your company senior financial leadership without a full-time executive hire. For growing and middle-market businesses, that often means the right person owning the right problems, on the schedule the business actually needs.

Brockway Street Consulting is led by Dan Goldstein, who has spent 20+ years in CFO and M&A roles at private equity–backed and public companies. He has served as CFO of a $600M multi-site waste services organization, built M&A functions from the ground up at three companies, and taken part in dozens of transactions with a combined value above $3B. Based in the Chicago area, Dan works with companies across the United States on a part-time, fractional basis.

What a fractional CFO does

Financial strategy and leadership. Owning the budget, forecast, and reporting rhythm so management and the board see the same numbers and make decisions from them.

Capital and lender relationships. Negotiating and extending credit facilities, managing leverage, and representing the company with lenders and sponsors. At LRS, this work included an extended revolver with three new lending partners, upgraded Moody's and S&P ratings, and a refinancing that cut annual interest expense by more than $2M.

Deal readiness and execution. Preparing financials for a sale, recapitalization, or acquisition, and running diligence, valuation, and negotiation with the same rigor as a full-time CFO.

Finance team and systems. Building the FP&A infrastructure and hiring the senior people who let finance lead rather than lag the business.

When a fractional CFO makes sense

Typical triggers include a company outgrowing its controller or bookkeeper, preparing for a sale or capital raise, integrating an acquisition, or needing a credible finance voice for lenders and investors before a full-time CFO is justified. It is also a good fit for owner-led companies that want an experienced sounding board at the table.

Fractional versus interim

A fractional CFO is an ongoing, part-time arrangement. An interim CFO steps in full-time and temporarily during a gap or transition. Brockway Street provides both. Learn about interim CFO engagements, or see how the work connects to M&A advisory.

Industry focus

Dan's operating background is in waste services, environmental services, and other capital-intensive, multi-site businesses. Companies in those sectors benefit from a CFO who already understands route density, disposal economics, and acquisition-driven growth. See our waste and environmental services focus.
